UMD Sustainability

UMD is committed to sustainable design, construction, and renovation. Several buildings have been constructed or renovated to comply with LEED certification levels. The campus also includes several buildings that have been updated to increase energy efficiency even though they didn’t quite make it to LEED certification.

UMD building projects aim to be environmentally-friendly, see a list on the Green Buildings page.

Historically, nearly 90% of UMD’s carbon emissions come from heating and powering the campus. Building Systems Automation & Controls staff monitor and regulate energy use on campus, to learn more about energy conservation, visit Building Systems and Controls.
